 Jason Kotecki, national speaker, author, and creator of the internationally known comic strip, Kim & Jason, is offering a limited number of one-of-a-kind cartooning experiences this summer. Jason has a degree in Illustration and has been cartooning for ten years. He and his comic strip have been featured locally in Madison Magazine, Dane County Kids, Tidbits, as well as on ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX. Jason has been delighting Dane County students with his lively cartooning workshops for five years. This year, he is offering an experience like no other. Students will get a taste of what it is like to have a career as a cartoonist. We don’t do these often, and we don’t know when (or if) we’ll offer them again.
Students Will Receive:
- Lunch and snacks
- A Kim & Jason comic book
- A special t-shirt
- Art supplies (tools of the trade)
- Tour of Jason’s REAL studio
- One-on-one feedback and goal setting
- New friendships with others who also love to draw
Students Will Learn:
- The main elements of creating a comic strip from scratch.
- The secrets of gag writing and character development.
- Cartooning techniques and tips on improving their drawing skills.
- How technology helps with art development. (Jason will demonstrate how he scans his comic strips and uploads them to the web.)
- The behind the scenes aspects of the business. (How do you make a living as a cartoonist?)
- How they can turn ideas into products (and a business) using free online tools.
- Upon finishing the day, students will have created their very own strip, which will be published on KimandJason.com
