Happy Monday!
Welcome to 2010. If you're one of the lucky ones whose New Year's resolution is still intact, congratulations. If you're hiding under your sheets in a shame spiral over your embarrassingly weak willpower, chin up. Rome wasn't built in a day. Falling down is part of success. Failure only happens when you stop picking yourself back up and trying again. Besides, I think New Years resolutions are kind of stupid. (Find out why by reading "
What is Your Word for 2010?")
Lucy is starting to get this walking thing down. She's all over the place and she's gaining confidence by the day. The thing that has struck me the most about the process is the fact that she's never appeared to be discouraged by any of her falls. It doesn't make her cry. It doesn't make her more tentative. It doesn't cause her to hide under her sheets in a shame spiral. She just gets back up and tries again, and gets better with each effort.
What could you accomplsh this year if you let go of the fear of failing? Ignore the inner voices of Adultitis that tell you that you're not good enough, not strong enough, not smart enough, not whatever enough. A childlike spirit is as optimistic as it is determined.
Adultitis-Fighting Tip: Accept the fact that there WILL be some stumbling blocks along your way to awesomeness, but don't let them get you down. If you want to REALLY make a useful resolution this year, resolve to always get back up after every fall. Do that, and you'll be running in no time!
Cheers,
