One of my professors in college had a link from her faculty page to something called The T.W.I.N.K.I.E.S. Project. Having a fondness for their golden sponginess and creamy middles, I clicked immediately. I was facsinated at the time and thought put into the experiments. Feel free to amuse yourself here.
Still having a side that indulges in individually wrapped snack cakes, I was thrilled when we added a new cookbook to the Lemonade Stand. The Twinkies Cookbook is a collection of recipes featuring Twinkies straight from Hostess. Featuring dishes of all kinds, primarily desserts, that were submitted by Twinkie-loving Americans in order to celebrate their 75th anniversary.
I’d like to share my favorite recipe: Twinkie Sushi
Here’s a wild recipe that’s super easy to make and super fun to eat as a light and fruity snack! This recipe transforms the much loved Twinkie into a hip and tropical flavored treat.
Items Needed:
- 3 Hostess Twinkies
- Assorted dried fruits
- Assorted fruity candies
- 2 green fruit roll ups
- Dried mangoes (looks like pickled ginger)
DIRECTIONS:
Slice Hostess Twinkies into pieces about an inch tall. Slice fruit roll ups in strips to the long enough and wide enough to wrap around the Hostess Twinkie pieces. Wrap the fruit roll ups around the Hostess Twinkie pieces. Place dried fruits and candies into the cream filling. Place Twinkie rolls on a plate or in a bento box. Garnish with strips of dried mango to resemble pickled ginger! Serve with chopsticks if you wish.

Some folks are like Monica from the TV show Friends when it comes to cleaning:
However not everyone feels the theraputic powers of cleaning or even the happiness in cleaning products. If you’re like me you wait for designated seasons for scrubbing and such. While National Cleaning Week comes to a close on Saturday that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get into spring cleaning spirit.
Since we’re all about helping folks find the fun in grown-up responsibilities, we’ve added a new line of cleaning tools at the Lemonade Stand.
Whether it’s the everyday drudgery of washing dishes or the deep cleansing of all the corners in the spring, dots, leaves and flower power will bring a smile to your face.
While the products won’t produce magical abilities to tidy up, I think you will find the element of fun. You may end up whistling while you work.

One of the cool new things we have at the Lemonade Stand is the Audio Cassette Tote Bag.
Reminiscent of those mix tapes you might have saved in memento boxes under your bed, this fun and functional tote is a nostalgic tool for grabbing a few groceries or carrying your workout clothes.
Subtle design elements like the handles lining up like tape being pulled from the cassette make this a neat item to show off anywhere.
Or maybe to blog about. Fion honors us with a nice post about her gift from Mark; commenting not only about the fun bag she spotted on our site but also the packaging and goodies inside.
Thanks Fion! So glad you like the bag! (Nice job to Mark for taking action on the find.)
I know Kim likes this bag too. What do you think of the Audio Cassette Tote Bag?

Snow is falling in Madtown. I’m not complaining, it’s winter in Wisconsin. Oh, that reminds me of a joke I just heard:
A truck driver came to a stop at a red light and a woman jumped out of the car behind him, ran up to his door and after he rolled down his window, yelled, “My name is Heather and I wanted to tell you that you’re losing part of your load.” Then she ran back to her car.
This happened again at the next two stoplights. At the fourth light, the trucker jumped down from his cab, ran back to the car and after her window was rolled down told Heather, “My name is Hank, it’s winter here in Wisconsin and I wanted to tell you this is a salt truck!”
Speaking of trucks, one of the ways I fight winter blahs is to think about summer. Swimming, playing outside and the ice cream man and his truck.
Well, we just got in a line of cool products to help you think summer, even if you live in Anchorage (and they only have 67.3 inches of snow so far this season unlike us).
Aren’t they awesome!? They smell as great at they look, see all eight here at the Lemonade Stand. What a fun way to chase away the winter blues!

Do you like things orderly - items in your pantry organized by food group and alphabetical?
Do you like things coordinated - drapes and throw pillows and area rug found on the color wheel for your newly painted walls?
Do you like things even - two towels folded neatly in the bathroom, with two washcloths draped across them?
If these things are true for you, you may not like what we just added to our store…

This is not a sample of several pairs of socks. This is one set of our totally cool new socks from LittleMissMatched! Three delightfully dissimilar socks for your uncoordinated pleasure.
I love these socks because they represent the perfect gift to yourself - what a fun way to put some fun and frivolity into your wardrobe. Marketing gurus and celebrities are joining this joyful rebellion to fashion status quo.
Even the most stodgy professional who feels compelled to keep up a certain appearance can indulge in this light-hearted ode to childhood couture. I mean if Katie Couric can slip on some zany socks for the evening news, couldn’t you wear a pair for your board meeting?
Don’t forget to check out the super soft mismatched gloves and give your workout shoes a joyful jolt with these awesome shoelaces!

When I was first interested in balloon animals at 11 years old, like Earl Hickey, those were the only animals I could offer.
I was fascinated and terrified of the practice of bending air inside that rubber casing. There’s something that seems to be defying physics as you twist and bend and squeeze the straight tube into a 3D representation of animals, objects, hats, even cartoon characters.
I think I may still have the red plastic pump from my first balloon animal kit somewhere in the attic at my parents’ house. I was able to work my way up to making basic animals like fish and the somewhat familiar dog.
Over the years, I’ve had a few opportunities to show off my twisting skills, but even with my limited memory (and more than a few popped balloons) it’s been kind of fun to try.
And if I decide to renew my pursuit of balloon twisting I’d like to be able to create more complex creatures.
It may be time for an upgrade to one of cool new Balloon Modeling Kits we now carry at the Lemonade Stand. With a variety of colorful balloons, balloon pump, and instruction booklet I just might be able to learn to create these guys:
