Angela is a really cool mom who shares her thoughts on products, books, websites and “whatever else catches my eye” on her blog: Did You See That?

She recently blogged about an order she received from the Lemonade Stand. I’m always thrilled when folks share about their packages.

I clicked on over to the Lemonade Stand - into the most fun online shopping experience I have ever had.

It tickles my heart when they post photos of the stuff on the outside of the box - as if putting stickers on the box wasn’t fun enough, people enjoy getting them that way! She also gushes about the extra goodies inside - we do love tucking in those free prizes!

Angela also read and reviewed Jason’s book Escape Adulthood and now she’s having a contest for readers of her blog to win a copy. Way cool!

She likes our new Lemonade Stand Newsletter sign-up too:

Even their newsletter sign up is funny - it says “Sign up to receive the FREE Kim & Jason Lemonade Stand e-Newsletter.It’s sent out twice a month and contains the latest deals and exclusivepromotions as well as updates on brand new products. We won’t sell or give out your info to anyone else. Only stupid heads do that.”

“Only stupid heads.” Seriously.

Thanks for the kind words Angela! Keep up the good work and fun reviews! Good luck tackling those last minute tax filers (she’s the CPA Mom for a reason)!

Madison, WI — Due to a surplus of quarters and general dislike of the new state’s designs, 25-Cent Tuesdays are cancelled until further notice.

Despite the popularity of the Lemonade Stand daily deal offering shipping for a quarter of orders of $25 or more, management has decided to suspend this promotion until further notice.

‘I’m saddened and meloncholic,’ exclaimed one frequent visitor to the website.

‘It’s outrageous!’ cried another Lemonade Stand regular when she heard the news.

‘This can’t be happening, gimme my Whopper!’ screamed a thoroughly confused customer.

Mourners memorialized in all sorts of ways; drawing George Washington silhouettes, scratching off lottery tickets, flipping coins, many of them sipping lemonade.

kj-hq-snow.jpgIt’s snowing in Madison.

Again.

Record-breaking snow in fact.

I’ve spent some time this winter shoveling our sidewalk and steps to keep the walkway open for our Madison friends to stop and shop. Maybe because I’m a January baby I don’t mind so much. It’s important to maintain perspective on snowy days like these, so I took some time to create that little snowman you see on our porch too.

On to the snow service story. First let me start by giving kudos to all the snow plow drivers. The mayor of Madison commented on the Weather Channel that normally they plan for 5 days of plowing and we’ve had 12. So far.

These folks just keep going and going. They’ve got a lot of pavement to clear and when it snows the amount we’ve had and as continuously as it has, they don’t get much of a break. It would be understandable if they just focused solely on the job they have to do.

The hero I want to commend didn’t let the overwhelming job he has to do, keep him from doing something nice for someone in trouble. On my way in to work this morning, I came upon a small car that had slid around in the street to be facing the wrong way. It was a fairly busy side street and he was in the oncoming traffic lane. As I pulled over to help, a city snow plow also stopped.

The driver got out of his truck, in a short sleeved t-shirt and pulling on some work gloves came over to help me push the car out of the snow bank. He commented that it was “too easy” and I said there’d be more difficult ones as the day went on and he said it wasn’t the first time he’d stopped that day. With a wave and smile he climbed into his truck and drove off.

He didn’t have to stop. He’s got plenty to do today. But he did and that made the lady in the snowbank’s day a little easier. We may take for granted the service the snowplow drivers provide but this driver went beyond his responsibilities and that makes him a customer service hero.

I hope to tap into the superpower of not being too busy working to offer a helping hand as I try to be your customer service hero.

img_3315.jpgGrowing up my family had hand sewn stockings that my mom made - all matching red gingham. They were usually stuffed with candy and little toys like Hot Wheels cars and Care Bears.

Since we no longer do big gift exchanges between all of us, but didn’t want to deprive Mom of her joy of “picking up a few things” we conceded that we could still have stockings each year.

There aren’t as many gifts and there are a few more people, and this morning ritual in my pjs is still one of my favorite things about being together at Christmas.

img_3317.jpg

Whether is was the chilly air or long lines at the Post Office, visitors for our 11th day of Wishmas were few. Those that came had the opportunity to decorate a Christmas stocking.

I’m not a super artistic person but I enjoy the occasional simple craft project like this one.

A little gold ribbon, some glitter and glue and a plain red stocking can become a personalized catchall for tidings of Christmas joy.

I found a fun story of possibly how the first stockings came to be in use by L Frank Baum:

Now it was on this same Christmas Eve that little Margot and her brother Dick and her cousins Ned and Sara, who were visiting at Margot’s house, came in from making a snow man, with their clothes damp, their mittens dripping and their
shoes and stockings wet through and through. They were not
scolded, for Margot’s mother knew the snow was melting, but
they were sent early to bed that their clothes might be hung
over chairs to dry. The shoes were placed on the red tiles of
the hearth, where the heat from the hot embers would strike
them, and the stockings were carefully hung in a row by the
chimney, directly over the fireplace. That was the reason
Santa Claus noticed them when he came down the chimney that
night and all the household were fast asleep. He was in a
tremendous hurry and seeing the stockings all belonged to
children he quickly stuffed his toys into them and dashed up
the chimney again, appearing on the roof so suddenly that the
reindeer were astonished at his agility.

“I wish they would all hang up their stockings,” he thought,
as he drove to the next chimney. “It would save me a lot of
time and I could then visit more children before daybreak.”

When Margot and Dick and Ned and Sara jumped out of bed next
morning and ran downstairs to get their stockings from the
fireplace they were filled with delight to find the toys from
Santa Claus inside them. In fact, I think they found more
presents in their stockings than any other children of that
city had received, for Santa Claus was in a hurry and did not
stop to count the toys.

Of course they told all their little friends about it, and of
course every one of them decided to hang his own stockings by
the fireplace the next Christmas Eve. Even Bessie Blithesome,
who made a visit to that city with her father, the great Lord
of Lerd, heard the story from the children and hung her own
pretty stockings by the chimney when she returned home at
Christmas time.

img_3320.jpgOn his next trip Santa Claus found so many stockings hung up in anticipation of his visit that he could fill them in a jiffy and be away again in half the time required to hunt the children up and place the toys by their bedsides.

The custom grew year after year, and has always been a great help to Santa Claus. And, with so many children to visit, he surely needs all the help we are able to give him.

Creating chocolate concoctions was the order of the day for our 9th day of Wishmas. Folks who browsed our goodies were able to sip on gourmet hot chocolate made to order just for them.

sprinkles-n-kiss.jpg

You can have your own gourmet hot chocolate station at your holiday gathering or even after dinner with your family. Simply gather up some fun ingredients to make this sweet treat!

fixins.jpgThe main ingredient is of course the cocoa. Tiny packets work great for this but you can also try this recipe for making homemade cocoa mix:

  • 2 cups nonfat dry milk powder
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Hershey’s cocoa
  • 1/2 cup powdered non-dairy creamer
  • 1 dash salt

The super fun part is all the goodies you add to the top. You need to have whipped cream and marshmallows. Grated chocolate, Marischino cherries, and sprinkles add a nice touch. Cookies and candy canes make great dippers for your drink too.

cookie-n-cane.jpg

Hard to believe this day makes us three-quarters of the way through our Wishmas event. Much like yesterday’s snow was just right for Santa’s visit, this hot chocolate was the perfect activity for a frigid day in Wisconsin!
