My mom took me to Knott’s Berry Farm on my birthday when I was 14. We stopped at the great bakery that sell all sorts of yummy cookies and cakes and baked goods. She looked at the birthday cakes already made for pickup and said to me “I really like that one I think we will get it”. I replied “you can’t get that one it is someones birthday cake!” That’s when she smiled and the lady handed it to us with my name on the cake. It was the best cake ever.

Hmmm, the question says anywhere in the “universe”. In that case, I’d say outer outer space, through black holes and worm holes and warped space-time-energy-whatnot so I can see and prove once and for all whether there are any alien life forms out there. If not, then we can all get back to our normal daily lives, thinking about what to eat for lunch.

**UPDATE: This week’s winner was Diane Crotty:
My birth father died when I was two. Before I turned three, Mom married the man I consider my real dad. Anyway, my earliest memory is of their wedding. I was the flower girl and my 18-month old brother was SUPPOSED to be the ring-bearer. Brother Duane only cooperated at first: He walked down the aisle right to our new dad, but instead of just standing there, he wanted to be held. When Dad didn’t pick him up right away, Duane looked at the congregation, looked at the floor, got down on his back, and started to ROLL down the aisle towards the back of the church. As the big sister (a bossy one at that), I felt responsible, but one look from Mom convinced me to stay frozen where I was while the crowd laughed and watched Duane roll back down the aisle.

My favorite bath time memory… is watching my kids build bubble beards and all the giggles, when a tub is an event, not a task. However, my wife’s worst memory is when dad put Tide in the tub thinking it would create better bubbles.

The minute I read the request I knew exactly what movie I’d choose. Then I had to go out online to figure out what it was called. When I was six years old, my dad took me to the drive in to see the Disney movie - The Unidentified Flying Oddball. I remember so little about the film, except that there were knights and a spaceman together and they did crazy stuff, like build robots. What I do remember is my daddy putting a blanket in the back of the truck, holding my hand to the concession stand and buying me popcorn, and continuously asking me, “Do you understand what’s going on?” I’m pretty sure I lied and said yes!

PlayDoh. What I loved was that I could blend the colors and make all types of people–or aliens–or flowers, villages, rainbows. You name it. Eventually I learned to make a pretty good cheap replica of Playdoh with flour, water, salt, and food coloring (I think that’s all). My magnum opus was a scale true-color model of the solar system–I put it on a long plank of wood–ten feet at least, with the sun on one end and Pluto as a tiny PlayDoh dot at the other. Bus driver slammed the door on it, breaking it in half! Ugh! Said I was getting too old for PlayDoh, even if it was for a science project. I think I better go out an buy some PlayDoh tomorrow–it’s been way too long and for an icky grown-up reason!

I liked the twilight time in the summer. When I was young, there were oodles of fireflies to be caught. I loved to put them in a jar, with holes for breathing and see the jar light up like magic when it became dark outside! I always let them go. It used to make me sad when some of the neighborhood kids would make rings from the light of the fireflies.

When I was 5 years old, my favorite friend was a boy who lived down the street who would come to my back yard and play. We played wonderful games unlike my icky sister who demanded tea parties and dress up. One day when Robby & I were playing cowboys he began to write his name on my moms white fence with his pee. I was BLOWN AWAY!!! He told me I too could do that if I pushed my belly button out. So for weeks I went around the house trying to force my belly button out so I too could pee my name. My mom was none to happy when she found out what I was doing.
